This is one of the most expensive, yet most useful improvements I've made
to the boat. The new clutches are Lewmar triples, for 1/4" - 5/16" line.
The first two photos show me chewing out the core, in preparation for
sealing the holes with epoxy.
These four photos show the inside view of the bolts. You can see the
chemical hand warmer in the first photo. If you look carefully at the
fourth photo, you'll notice that the outside bolts are too long. This is
by design, as the VHF radio hangs just inside the companionway from those
bolts (see last photo).
Installed: both clutches mount on teak riser blocks, to ensure a fair lead
to the winch (on port) and to clear the glassed-in beam (on starboard).
The first photo shows the jib halyard led around the winch.
